How Neuroaesthetic Principles Show Up in HOK's Work
Every space we design has an impact on the people who experience it. We feel space before we can think about it. The Neuro-Architecture Triad (coherence, fascination and hominess) gives us a way to understand what that impact is. The principles and elements of design are our toolkit to create that impact. As designers, it’s on us to design with intention, because none of that matters if it doesn’t show up in the work.
In this video, Kay Sargent walks through real HOK projects across workplaces, airports, stadiums and healthcare facilities, showing what intentional neuroaesthetic design actually looks like. See how light moves people through a space, how a ceiling height change shifts the way a room feels, how materials tell your body whether to relax or stay alert, and how noise and distractions can undermine everything else.
